Mercedes-Benz India has just dropped the all-new G 450d, and it’s a big moment for the G-Class story in India. For the first time ever, buyers can choose between petrol, electric, and now diesel powertrains in Mercedes’ legendary off-roader. The diesel G-Wagen is back, refined, and ready to take on both the Himalayas and high streets.
Powertrain
Under the hood sits a 3.0-litre inline-six diesel engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system. The numbers are staggering: 270 kW, 750 Nm of torque, and an extra 15 kW boost from the integrated starter generator. Despite its towering size and brick-shaped silhouette, the G 450d can sprint from 0–100 km/h in just 5.8 seconds. It’s built for rock and rubble, but moves like it’s late for an executive meeting.
Luxury, heritage, and horsepower in one package
Step inside, and it’s pure Mercedes indulgence. Two-tone Nappa leather, customizable ambient lighting, and a Burmester 3D Surround Sound system with Dolby Atmos make it part lounge, part concert hall. The latest MBUX NTG7 infotainment suite brings in augmented reality navigation, connected features, and seamless smartphone integration.
The off-road cockpit has been cleverly reworked—terrain controls are easier to reach, and visibility is commanding as ever. Three mechanical differential locks, adaptive damping, and the old-school ladder-frame chassis ensure the G 450d stays true to its rugged roots.
Exclusivity
Mercedes-Benz’s bespoke MANUFAKTUR program adds another layer of indulgence. Buyers can choose from handpicked paint finishes, intricate interior trims, and personalized stitching. Only 50 units of the G 450d have been earmarked for India in the first allocation. So, if you spot one in the wild, you’re looking at serious rarity on four wheels.
To mark this milestone, Mercedes-Benz India is also introducing the G-Tribe Escapade, a curated drive from India to Bhutan. Select customers will get to traverse Thimphu, Punakha, and Paro behind the wheel of G-Class, AMG, and EQS SUVs.
