Key Highlights

  • 28 Skoda vehicles conquer Umling La, the world’s highest motorable road at 19,024 ft
  • Convoy includes Kylaq, Kodiaq, Kushaq, Slavia, and the iconic Yeti
  • Recognised by the India Book of Records and Asia Book of Records for the largest convoy at altitude

Skoda Auto India has entered the record books with an achievement that celebrates both engineering and endurance. A convoy of 28 Skoda vehicles, driven by 60 enthusiasts from across India, reached Umling La, the world’s highest motorable road at 19,024 feet. The feat has been officially recognised by the India Book of Records and the Asia Book of Records for being the largest convoy to reach such an altitude.

Engineering that earned its altitude

Each vehicle in the convoy was chosen for a reason. Skoda used this opportunity to prove that its cars are not just built for urban roads, but for serious challenges as well.

Kylaq: The flagship SUV led the charge with its 4×4 drivetrain, adaptive suspension, and high ground clearance. It managed steep inclines, sharp switchbacks, and river crossings with ease, maintaining composure even in thin air.

Kodiaq: Known for its premium comfort and all-weather ability, the Kodiaq showed that luxury can coexist with capability. Its dynamic chassis and all-wheel-drive system ensured stability and grip on icy, broken terrain.

Kushaq: Built on the MQB-A0-IN platform, the Kushaq demonstrated the platform’s strength and versatility. It handled rocky surfaces and low-traction stretches confidently while maintaining impressive efficiency throughout the journey.

Slavia: A sedan among SUVs, the Slavia surprised everyone. Its turbocharged engine, well-tuned suspension, and rigid chassis allowed it to climb at altitude with the same assurance as its SUV siblings.

Yeti: The cult classic of the lineup returned to prove its mettle once again. Despite being out of production, the Yeti tackled the expedition with trademark composure and agility, reminding everyone why it remains one of Skoda’s most respected nameplates.

Over 3,000 km of demanding terrain, temperatures ranging from -5°C to 25°C, and zero mechanical issues, the result spoke for itself. Every car completed the journey without a single breakdown or failure.

People behind the machines

The 60 participants weren’t professional drivers. They were everyday owners, enthusiasts, and families who came from cities like Mumbai, Sangli, Gorakhpur, and Delhi. The route took them from Manali to Umling La via Leh, Khardung La, Pangong Tso, Hanle, and Thang. It was both a test of endurance and a celebration of community.

A brand on the rise

Skoda Auto India is already having a breakthrough year. Between January and September 2025, the company sold 53,355 units, a 134% increase over H1 2024 and 110% growth in Q3. With 315 touchpoints across 179 cities, Skoda’s network is expanding rapidly, making ownership and service more accessible than ever.

This record-setting convoy reinforces Skoda’s momentum in India. It shows that the brand’s vehicles are not only refined and feature-rich but also engineered to perform where few dare to drive.
