What is the new KTM Adventure twin-cylinder bike?
The latest spy shots of an unknown KTM Adventure model have surfaced online from Europe. This is the second test mule after a Duke model was spotted earlier with a similar dual-cylinder liquid-cooled engine.
So, what is it? Well, KTM has been developing a new parallel-twin engine for long time, even before Bajaj took over. This engine is likely going to replace the 690cc platform, and the main target is to bridge the gap between the 399cc and 690cc engine models.
While its exact capacity is unknown, the structure and size of the engine visible in the photos look like a middleweight platform. So, the possibility of this being a 500cc unit are high. However, we are unsure whether the 500cc would be the right choice or not.
Some media reports speculate that this could be a 650cc engine, which will offer around 60-70 bhp. However, downsizing from the existing 690cc single-cylinder to a 650cc dual-cylinder would not bridge the gap per se.
Therefore, it could be even more smaller unit, probably a 500cc. Leaving this debate aside, the test mule is stripped naked. There are no body panels, which tells us the production model is still far away.
Some interesting details of this test mule include the aluminium swingarm, spoke rims with block pattern tube tyres, a new two-in-one upswept exhaust system, and a single disc brake at the front. All these hardware means the aim is weight saving, which could turn it into a complete fun machine when launched.
