What to expect from the new-gen Hyundai i20?
The newly leaked photos of the fourth-gen i20 might look polarising at first glance, but this new-gen hatchback is all set to hit production soon in the global market. Leaked by a Korean digital agency, the new-gen i20 looks radically different as compared to the current model that we get in India right now.
The front fascia now gets a big connected Y-shaped LED daytime running light setup with integrated LED headlamps. The front grille has been lowered a bit, and it is splitted in two halves via a silver garnish. The front overall looks modern and feels like an upgrade.
However, things start to mess up when you move to the side where it gets Kia-inspired styling, which includes the new dual-tone alloys, wider mirrors, retractable door handles, and a swooping rear window design that merges in the rear quarter panel somewhat like the Suzuki Ignis.
But the real polarising design is at the back, where it gets the new triangular LED lights that are connected via a lightbar that is placed on the lower side of the new sporty boot. The rear windshield is big, though, but the sporty design seen on the current model has vanished on the upcoming model of the i20. The rear bumper is full of plastic moulding, which tries to give it a sporty outlook.
The leaked images also shared a glimpse of the cabin. The partially visible dashboard looks completely redesigned as it gets a new curved connected display, a new three-spoke steering wheel like the Ioniq 5, and a new vertical centre console with portrait-like HVAC control panel. This is something completely unique, especially for a car that belongs to a budget segment.
Thankfully, the car retains a lot of physical control buttons. Moreover, you can not miss out on the new door panels with an oval door handle and quilted pattern on the pads.
While we are yet to dig up its features and specification details, online reports say that the new-gen i20 will continue using the same 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine and a 1.0-litre TGDI turbo petrol engine.
Hyundai is suspected to reveal the new-gen i20 in South Korea in the coming weeks. It will be later revealed in India, and a possible launch could take place around early 2027.
