Nissan India has commenced deliveries of the Tekton SUV. This is the second SUV of the brand on sale currently, and it shares its underpinnings with the Renault Duster. Nissan has revealed the prices of the Tekton recently, which start from Rs 10.49 lakh and go up to Rs 18.59 lakh, both ex-showroom.

Nissan Tekton: Will it be a game-changer for Nissan in India?

The new Tekton is based on the Renault Duster, but it offers a different visual appeal and a slightly different cabin design. Being essentially the same SUV, the Tekton somehow offers a more streamlined outlook, which makes it look sophisticated and more polished than the Duster itself.

Nissan India has been struggling with sales for a long time. In fact, the brand only had the Magnite compact SUV on sale for a long time, with no other product to offer. Nissan also tried to sell the X-Trail in India, but being a CBU and an outdated model, that SUV saw almost no buyers. So, the brand’s fate in the Indian market automatically depends on the Tekton.

The only thing that the Tekton offers better than the Renault Duster is the design. While it is a subjective choice, the Tekton’s polished and urban styling will attract more buyers who prefer urban SUVs. Meanwhile, the availability of two engine options is also a plus point.

The Tekton gets a 1.0-litre 100 bhp engine that has been sourced from the Magnite. The company claims to have tuned it differently from the Magnite, which allows for better mileage and driving response. It is paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Meanwhile, the star powertrain is a Daimler-sourced 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine that makes 163 bhp and 280 Nm- the highest in the segment. It is paired with a 6-speed manual and a wet-clutch 6-speed DCT automatic gearbox. The claimed mileage of the Tekton goes up to 19.4 km/l, depending on the powertrain opted for.

With deliveries now commenced, the Honda Elevate, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, and the Hyundai Creta are likely to feel the heat from the increased competition from the Nissan Tekton.
