Ather Energy is all set to launch its new affordable electric scooter, called Konarc, on August 29. It is based on the brand’s latest EL01 platform. The Konarc will rival the popular family scooters like the TVS iQube and Bajaj Chetak.

Ather Konarc: What do we know so far?

Ather Konarc spotted testing

The upcoming Konarc electric scooter was recently spotted in Bengaluru in a camouflaged form. Based on the EL01 concept, the production-spec Konarc features a subtle body design with family-centric practical elements like a big footboard for more rider legroom and luggage ferrying, a wide and long seat for a comfortable ride, a conventional pillion grab rail, a simple front apron design with fewer cuts and creases, and a front mudguard.

With these elements, Ather has tried to keep it as neutral as possible so that a wide array of buyers could feel safer with its design. The non-radical styling also features some modern bits, like the U-shaped daytime running light at the front, an LED headlight, a U-shaped LED taillight with integrated turn signals, etc.

Speaking of the technical details, the Konarc features a swingarm-mounted hub motor. The scooter rides on alloy wheels, and the front wheel gets a single disc brake rotor. Meanwhile, we can spot a large TFT screen, which clarifies that it will get all smart wireless features like geofencing, proximity lock/unlock, built-in navigation support, voice commands, and more.

Online reports and rumours hint at two battery packs. These could be carried over from the Rizta scooter. However, to keep things under the cost bracket, Ather could use a simpler electronic control module and battery specifications. This means that the claimed range on the Konarc would be around 100 km, because that is the sweet spot if we look at the claimed figures of its rivals.

With that said, the Konarc scooter will be the most affordable e-scooter of the brand. It will be officially introduced in the Indian market on August 29. We anticipate that its price will be around Rs 1-1.25 lakh.
