No more cash payment allowed at NHAI toll plazas
After announcing the phase-out of cash payments, NHAI has implemented the latest toll policy across India. All toll booths, including 1,150 plazas across the nation, have implemented the new policy of no cash payment.
As per the details, the toll booths will not accept cash payment anymore. Earlier, motorists were allowed to use the highways and expressways by paying 1.5 times the toll fee in cash. Now, the latest policy does not allow anyone to use the highways or expressways for cash.
However, automatic toll barriers operating without manpower will record the vehicle number and send a notice to the current owner to pay the toll fee within 72 hours if the vehicle crosses such toll booths. Motorists who fail to pay the stipulated time will be charged double afterwards.
If the owner does not make a payment, the data will be recorded in the Parivahan database for further action after 15 days of no payment. Meanwhile, UPI payments are still allowed, but users will have to pay 1.25 times the toll booth fee via this method.
On the other hand, FASTag will remain valid across the nation. Users can also get their annual FASTag passes online.
