The Hyundai Bayon based midsize SUV, internally codenamed BC4i, is set to arrive during the 2026 festive season. The new model will sit alongside the Creta, but will be positioned slightly lower in Hyundai’s midsize SUV line-up.
This is an interesting move from Hyundai. Instead of making the Creta fight the entire segment on its own, the company will have another SUV targeting buyers who want something more affordable.
Not quite the Bayon we know
The upcoming SUV is based on the Bayon, but Hyundai has adapted it specifically for India. It will measure around 4.18 metres long, putting it firmly into the midsize SUV category.
The SUV has already been spotted testing here. The spy shots suggest a crossover-inspired design, with lighting elements that share some similarities with the latest Venue. Hyundai is also expected to load it up with features, including ADAS.
Petrol first, CNG later
The BC4i is expected to use Hyundai’s 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, paired with manual and CVT gearbox options. A CNG version is also expected to follow.
If it arrives as planned, this would be Hyundai’s first CNG model above the four-metre mark. The CNG kit is expected to sit underneath the body, while Hyundai will reportedly retain a spare wheel.
There is unlikely to be a diesel or hybrid option at launch. This also gives Hyundai a clear way to separate the new SUV from the Creta, which is expected to gain a hybrid powertrain with its next generation.
A new rival for the Victoris
The new Hyundai will go up against SUVs such as the Maruti Suzuki Victoris, especially in CNG guise. It will also give Hyundai another option for buyers who find the Creta a little too expensive.
Pricing is going to be important if it has to compete with the Victoris. We expect this new SUV to be priced around Rs 11 lakh.
