JSW Motors has patented the design of its upcoming electric SUV based on the Chery iCaur V23 in India. The patent images show that while the overall boxy silhouette remains largely unchanged, the India-spec model will receive a few visual and equipment differences from the international version.
What to expect
The SUV retains the iCaur V23’s distinctive retro-inspired design, including circular LED headlamps, LED DRLs with black surrounds, flared wheel arches and side steps. However, the closed-off front grille has been redesigned, while the alloy wheels get a different design. A rectangular element can also be seen between the C- and D-pillars, which is absent on the international model.
One of the more significant additions is a panoramic sunroof. The international iCaur V23 does not offer one, making this a notable change for the India-spec SUV. The rear appears largely unchanged, retaining the slim LED tail-lights and tailgate-mounted storage box.
The cabin is expected to remain largely similar to the international model. It gets a minimalist dashboard dominated by a 15.4-inch touchscreen, which also displays the vehicle’s instrumentation instead of using a conventional driver display. A three-spoke steering wheel and rotary controls for functions such as climate control and drive modes complete the layout.
Internationally, the iCaur V23 is available with 59.93 kWh and 81.76 kWh batteries. The smaller battery powers a rear-mounted motor producing 134 hp and 180Nm, while the larger battery gets a dual-motor AWD setup producing 208 hp and 292 Nm.
Sources suggest JSW Motors could bring the dual-motor AWD version to India, where it is expected to be positioned as a rugged electric SUV against models such as the Mahindra Thar Roxx and Force Gurkha 5-door. Pricing is expected to be around Rs 20 lakh, although the company has not confirmed the final specifications or price.
