Mercedes-Benz has just launched what it calls its most intelligent car ever in India. The all-new CLA BEV is the first Mercedes-Benz in India to be built on the new MMA platform, the first to run MB.OS (Mercedes-Benz’s proprietary operating system), and the first to bring 800V fast charging architecture to the luxury sedan segment in this country.
Three variants, a price range of Rs 55 lakh to Rs 64 lakh, and 400+ pre-launch bookings already on the books. Mercedes-Benz has clearly struck a nerve.

The CLA BEV comes to India in three distinct variants, each with its own positioning.

The Platform
The CLA BEV is the first product in India to be built on Mercedes-Benz’s new MMA platform. The MMA platform was designed from the ground up as a born-electric architecture, which means the CLA is not an adapted ICE car. It is an electric vehicle built to be exactly that, from day one.
The platform enables the 800V electrical architecture on the CLA 250+ variants, which is what makes the fast charging numbers possible. It also underpins MB.OS, Mercedes-Benz’s in-house operating system that handles everything from ADAS to navigation to over-the-air updates.
Performance and range
The headline numbers across the three variants are strong, and the differences between them are meaningful.

Real-world numbers will inevitably be lower, but even at a conservative discount, the CLA 250+ should comfortably handle long-distance trips without charging anxiety.
MB.OS
The CLA BEV is the first Mercedes-Benz in India to debut MB.OS and the fourth generation of MBUX. At the heart of it all is an NVIDIA AI chip stack capable of 508 trillion operations per second, with four main computers working together to run the car’s systems, ADAS, and infotainment simultaneously.
Design
The CLA’s design is built around a fastback silhouette with a 0.21 coefficient of drag, which is exceptional for a production car. The wheelbase measures 2,790mm, with short overhangs and a GT-inspired rear that gives it a genuinely athletic stance.
Up front, the signature element is a new illuminated panel featuring 142 chrome-effect stars arranged around the large central Mercedes-Benz emblem, a reinterpretation of the classic chrome grille for the electric era. Full-LED headlights are connected by a light band across the front, and the MULTIBEAM LED daytime running lights are shaped like the Mercedes-Benz star.
At Rs 55 lakh for the CLA 200 and Rs 59 lakh for the CLA 250+ Long Range, Mercedes-Benz has priced the CLA BEV aggressively for what it offers. A 792 km WLTP range, 800V fast charging, MB.OS with NVIDIA AI processing, and full ADAS with OTA upgradability.
