Key highlights

- Likely to rival upcoming compact EVs including the Volkswagen ID. Polo EV
- Could become MG’s most affordable global EV offering
MG has dropped the first teaser of an upcoming electric hatchback, hinting at a new entry-level EV that could significantly expand the brand’s electric portfolio.
While the company has not officially revealed the model name, early indications suggest it could be a production version of the compact electric hatchback that MG has been developing for international markets. The car is expected to target buyers looking for a practical urban EV while also taking on future rivals such as Volkswagen’s upcoming ID. Polo EV.
Compact dimensions
The teaser reveals a silhouette that looks noticeably smaller than the current MG4 EV.
From what is visible, the new EV appears to feature:
- Short front and rear overhangs
- Compact hatchback proportions
- Full-width LED lighting elements
- Aerodynamically optimised design
- Sporty roofline
The overall package seems designed for city use while maximising cabin space through a dedicated EV architecture.
Expected to sit below the MG4 EV
Globally, MG has been working on smaller and more affordable electric vehicles as demand for compact EVs continues to rise.
The upcoming hatchback is expected to slot below the MG4 EV and could become one of the brand’s most accessible electric cars.

Could it come to India?
MG has been aggressively expanding its EV lineup in India with models such as the MG Comet EV, MG Windsor EV and MG ZS EV.
Given the growing demand for affordable electric vehicles, the new hatchback could be a strong candidate for India, although the company has not confirmed any launch plans yet.
If introduced here, it would likely sit above the Comet EV and below larger electric crossovers in MG’s lineup.
