Nissan unveiled the Terrano PHEV Concept at Auto China 2026 in Beijing, and among everything the brand showed at the show, this is the one that has people talking. The Terrano nameplate carries real history. .
Design
The Terrano PHEV Concept is boxy, upright, and unashamedly rugged in character. The front end features a chunky bumper. The illuminated rectangular elements on the nose are a deliberate nod to the first-generation Pathfinder and Hardbody pickup trucks from the 1980s, a heritage wink that long-time Nissan fans will appreciate. The overall stance sits high, with ground clearance clearly prioritised over low-slung styling. It is a mid-size SUV footprint, designed to work equally well on a city road and on a trail.
Powertrain
Nissan has confirmed the Terrano PHEV Concept uses the brand’s latest plug-in hybrid technology but has held back specific output figures, battery capacity, and electric range for now. What is clear from the positioning is that this is not a soft-road PHEV dressed up in rugged clothes.
Full specs will follow with the production reveal, which Nissan has confirmed will happen within one year.
India connection
For Indian buyers, the Terrano name is not unfamiliar. Nissan sold a Terrano in India between 2013 and 2022, though that model was based on the Renault Duster platform and was a very different product from the original Terrano nameplate. This new Terrano PHEV Concept is a closer spiritual successor to the original, and Nissan has confirmed that the production version will be offered in selected global markets beyond China. Whether India is among those markets has not been confirmed, but it is a market where Nissan has history with the name and where rugged PHEVs are gaining traction.
