Renault Triber to get a turbo engine with dual-CNG
Revealing its future plans for the Indian market, French carmaker Renault has also revealed that it will soon introduce a powerful turbo engine option on the Triber. Moreover, this engine will benefit from a dual-CNG powertrain.
To embed the CNG in the Triber, Renault has re-engineered the CMF-A platform. The re-engineered platform is now called RGEP or Renault Group Entry Platform. It will hold the dual-CNG cylinders under the floor, thus keeping the boot space as it is.
Previously, Nissan had also showcased a dual-CNG option with the Gravite’s debut. Since both cars are essentially the same, the Gravite CNG prototype had the cylinders placed in the boot. However, Renault knows that it will kill the practicality, hence the under-floor CNG has been engineered.
While offering a turbo engine should have been done since the beginning, Renault has taken its sweet time to re-engineer the engine bay to pack the 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo unit, sourced from Kiger. The packaging has been done in such a way that it can meet the safety tests.
Moreover, the 1.0-litre turbo engine option will also be offered without CNG. It will be offered with a 5-speed manual and a CVT automatic gearbox options, thus addressing the long overdue feedback of customers about the NA engine not being powerful.
Speaking of the launch timeline, the Triber turbo-CNG could be introduced by September-October 2026.
