Key highlights
- Renault lines up a major Kwid refresh after updating the Kiger and Triber.
- Expect sharper styling, new features, and possibly six airbags as standard.
- Launch likely around the festive season; powertrain stays the same.
Renault India is putting the spotlight back on the Kwid, its once best-selling hatchback that shook up the entry-level market back in 2015. After giving the Kiger and Triber a facelift earlier this year, the Kwid is now in line for its own makeover, a timely move as hatchbacks fight to stay relevant in an SUV-obsessed market.
The Kwid may no longer be Renault’s sales hero, but it still plays an important role in keeping the brand accessible. And with the festive season around the corner (plus potential GST benefits on small cars), Renault seems keen to make sure the Kwid still has a seat at the table.
What’s likely to change
While Renault hasn’t pulled the covers off yet, the updates should mirror what we saw on the Kiger and Triber facelifts. Expect:
- A redesigned front end with sharper LED DRLs and a new headlamp housing.
- Fresh bumpers, new alloy wheel designs, and updated body graphics.
- New paint shades to spice up the colour palette.
- A mildly reworked cabin with better upholstery and a tidier dashboard layout.
- Six airbags across trims, a move that would make the Kwid one of the safest cars in its class.
The Kwid already packs plenty for its price: an 8-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital instrument cluster, TPMS, ESC, and reverse parking sensors. The facelift is expected to polish the package with subtle but meaningful improvements.
Same heart under the hood
Mechanically, Renault isn’t rocking the boat. The Kwid will continue with its 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol motor putting out 67 bhp and 91 Nm. Transmission choices remain the same, a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT. A dealer-level CNG kit will still be on offer for those chasing lower running costs.
The engine is already E20-ready, so Renault doesn’t need to touch it again just yet.
Launch and positioning
If Renault follows the same playbook as the Kiger and Triber, the updated Kwid should hit showrooms by late September or early October—just in time for festive bookings. Prices are expected to remain competitive, with the base variant starting around INR 4.7 lakh (ex-showroom).
The refreshed Kwid will continue to court budget buyers who want SUV-inspired looks, a feature list that punches above its price, and easy drivability in the city.
