Amid numerous speculations, Hyundai has confirmed the nameplate of its upcoming midsize SUV that is scheduled to launch in the coming weeks. This new SUV will be slotted between Venue and Creta, and it will be called Bayon.
Hyundai Bayon: What do we know so far?
The upcoming Bayon SUV will be Hyundai’s latest offering in the midsize SUV category. Hyundai has been testing it for quite some time now, and it will boast crossover styling, which will help it get positioned nicely between the Venue and the Creta.
The Bayon nameplate has been carried over from an i20-based crossover that Hyundai sells in Europe. Although the Indian-spec car will be completely new and it won’t be based on the i20, it will be based on the Creta’s platform.
We have already seen spy shots of camouflaged test mules, and the production-spec model is likely to boast a low-slung and wider footprint. This could also mean that the Bayon will offer a spacious cabin for five passengers.
On the styling front, it will feature the design elements inspired by the ‘Art of Steel’ design language. It is expected to feature sharp connected LED lights, dual-tone alloy wheels, and muscular body panels.
A faint glimpse of its interior was revealed through spy shots recently, and we can expect it to offer a dual-tone, light-themed cabin with a large central infotainment screen, a sleek digital driver console, a wireless charging pad with ventilation, electric front seat adjustment with ventilation, a dual-zone climate control, a premium sound system, a new three-spoke steering wheel, and Level 2 ADAS safety features on the range-topping variants.
Online reports hint that Hyundai will offer the Bayon with the Creta-sourced 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a new CNG powertrain. The latter is likely to be introduced on the Creta and Venue in the coming months. We also expect the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine to be offered on certain trims with the DCT gearbox.
Hyundai is yet to reveal the exact launch date of the Bayon, but we can safely say that it will be launched before Diwali festive season. Since it will be positioned between the Venue and the Creta, it is likely to be priced around Rs 9-18 lakh.
