Maruti Suzuki India has crossed a significant milestone in its vehicle logistics operations, dispatching 10 lakh vehicles through its in-plant railway sidings at Hansalpur in Gujarat and Manesar in Haryana. The company achieved the milestone within three years and five months of the Gujarat siding becoming operational in March 2023 and the Manesar facility starting operations in June 2025.
The Gujarat facility has handled the bulk of these dispatches, accounting for around 7.9 lakh vehicles, while the Manesar siding has contributed approximately 2.1 lakh vehicles. In the current financial year up to August 31, more than 3 lakh Maruti Suzuki vehicles have been dispatched by rail.
These dedicated sidings allow vehicles to be loaded onto trains inside the manufacturing facility itself, eliminating the need to transport finished vehicles by truck to an external railway station. This reduces road usage for vehicle logistics while also helping lower fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
Maruti Suzuki has now dispatched more than 33 lakh vehicles by rail since FY2014-15. Of these, 10 lakh have moved through the company’s two in-plant sidings, while the remaining vehicles were dispatched using loading terminals located outside its manufacturing facilities.
Rail’s contribution to Maruti Suzuki’s overall vehicle dispatches has also increased significantly. The company’s rail-based dispatch share has grown from 5% in FY2014-15 to 26.5% in FY2025-26. It plans to take this figure to 35% by FY2030-31, with further investment in rail infrastructure, including an upcoming in-plant siding at its Kharkhoda manufacturing facility.
The company says the Gujarat and Manesar sidings accounted for 70% of its total rail-based vehicle dispatches in FY2026-27 so far. Both facilities were developed as part of the government’s PM GatiShakti National Master Plan.
