Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara achieves 4 lakh sales milestone

Key highlights

  • Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara crosses 4 lakh sales
  • Becomes the second Nexa SUV after Fronx to achieve this milestone
  • A majority of sales comes from CNG powertrain

Maruti Suzuki remains the leading carmaker in India for FY2027. Out of a vast pool of cars, Maruti’s Grand Vitara brings a big chunk of sales. The brand has recently announced that the Grand Vitara has achieved a 4 lakh domestic sales milestone within 46 months of launch. The SUV was first introduced in September 2022, and it remains one of the best-selling cars in its segment.

Speaking of the details, 4,01,007 units of the Grand Vitara were sold in India from September 2026 to June 2026. Not just the domestic market, but the brand also managed to export 62,500 units to the international market.

In terms of sales volume comparison, the Fronx remains the leader from the Nexa sub-brand, as the crossover recently achieved 5 lakh domestic sales. It is being trailed by the Grand Vitara with 4 lakh domestic sales. FY2025 was reported as the best year for the SUV with 1,23,946 units sold. However, sales slowed in FY2026 due to the launch of Victoris SUV, which killed some of its lead.

The Grand Vitara seems to have picked up the pace yet again in FY2027, as 20,728 units have been sold between April 2026 and June 2026. With that said, the SUV is sold with three engine options:

  • 1.5-litre four-cylinder K15C naturally aspirated petrol engine with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox and an optional AWD with 6AT.
  • 1.5-litre four-cylinder CNG powertrain with a 5-speed manual gearbox, delivering up to 26.6 km/kg of mileage.
  • 1.5-litre three-cylinder strong hybrid petrol engine with an e-CVT gearbox, delivering up to 27.97 km/l of mileage.

Out of these engine options, it is the CNG iteration that finds the most buyers. The CNG variants like the Delta offer a great value-for-money proposition. Meanwhile, Grand Vitara CNG does not feature the underbody CNG tank placement like the Victoris, which has become another reason for CNG buyers opting for the Victoris over the Grand Vitara.
