The Himalayan moniker from Royal Enfield is truly a segment-leading dual-sport motorcycle. Launched initially with the 411cc air/oil-cooled engine, the Himalayan received a major shift with the new generation model by featuring the first-ever water-cooled 452cc Sherpa engine. However, the brand has been working on yet another iteration of the Himalayan, which will be based on the Scram 440 and likely feature the old-school charm of the original Himalayan ADV.
The upcoming version will be called Himalayan 440, and it will feature a reworked version of the 411cc engine. This engine made its debut on the Scram 440 with a new six-speed gearbox, thus improving its mid-range torque and highway cruising capabilities. Online reports claim that this version will most likely get a long-travel suspension and the 21-/17-inch spoked wheel setup, acting as the major differentiators between the Scram 440 and the Himalayan 440.
The fanbase of the original Himalayan 411 loved its looks and low-end torque. While the Sherpa 452 is no less than a gem, the oil-cooled 411cc motor was way more tractable in the lower power band. This is what seems to have inspired the brand to bring the OG Himalayan back with the 440cc engine. There is also a possibility that Royal Enfield seems to be receiving constant queries regarding the oil-cooled Himalayan’s return – especially from the European customers where it was very popular. Hence, the Himalayan 440 was finalised for launch.
Suspecting the love of fans for its original design, we anticipate that the Himalayan 440 will look largely identical to the original 411 model. Royal Enfield is an artisan in equipping its bikes with attractive colours and graphics, which will find their way onto the new Himalayan 440 as well.
The expected launch timeline for the Himalayan 440 is in the first half of September 2026. The brand is likely to milk the popularity of the Himalayan name in the upcoming festive season. Meanwhile, a bigger 750cc Himalayan is also on its way, which will debut in November 2026 and possibly launch in India by early 2027.
