Maruti Suzuki has announced a new production milestone in the history of global car manufacturing. The Japanese carmaker has hit 1 million annual production capacity at its Gujarat-based Hansalpur production facility.
The carmaker had recently inaugurated Plant D in the Hansalpur facility, which became operational, yielding export models like the newly introduced e Vitara electric SUV. Earlier, the annual production capacity of this facility was 750,000 units, while the new Plant D has added 250,000 units of annual capacity to this figure, thus taking the total annual production limit to 1 million units.
This is the highest-ever production figure achieved by any car manufacturer in the history of automotive production. Mind you, Maruti Suzuki is now capable of producing 2.9 million cars annually, including the Hansalpur-based facility’s capacity. Maruti recently started production at its new Haryana-based Kharkhoda facility, which currently has a capacity of 500,000 units. However, the brand will soon expand the Kharkhoda facility to a 1 million annual production capacity, which will be another global production milestone for the carmaker.
As of 2026, Maruti has invested Rs 25,288.7 crore in India, out of which Rs 3,900 have been invested in setting up Plant D at the Hansalpur production plant in Gujarat. Maruti is India’s leading car manufacturer, with four operational large production facilities pan-India. In terms of production numbers, the Manesar, Haryana-based production plant produces 0.9 million units annually, the Gurugram-based facility produces 0.5 million units annually, the Hansalpur plant produces 1 million units annually, and the Kharkhoda production facility makes 0.5 million units annually.
Maruti recently launched the facelifted Brezza in India with a new 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine and a new 6-speed manual gearbox. The new C-SUV is now available nationwide in three powertrain options, including two petrol and one CNG engine.
