Maruti Suzuki has begun rigorous testing of the upcoming WagonR facelift. After being spotted for the first time recently, the upcoming hatchback was once again spotted in Delhi-NCR, revealing new details.
The most interesting bit that the new spy images reveal is the redesigned headlamps. While the test mule is completely camouflaged, the fascia looks redesigned underneath. The front bumper looks more rounded off, while the new reflector-based headlights are clearly visible.
The overall silhouette of the new WagonR looks identical to the current car, which hints that it will not be a generation change, but a mid-life update. WagonR has been long overdue for a thorough update, and the upcoming facelift is likely to bring much-needed upgrades like a fresh interior, new features like a bigger infotainment screen, an upgraded sound system, improved NVH, etc.
Online rumours are also indicating that Maruti is expected to replace the current 1.2-litre K-series four-cylinder engine of the current model with the new 1.2-litre Z-series three-cylinder engine carried over from the new Swift. Moreover, Maruti has recently launched the CNG AMT variants of the Swift, Dzire, and Baleno, and the same could also be repeated with the WagonR facelift if the brand uses the Z-series engine.
With that said, another area of improvement could be the structural integrity of the WagonR. Maruti could add redesigned structural parts to improve the safety quotient of the city hatchback.
As of now, the exact launch timeline of the WagonR facelift is unknown. However, we anticipate that Maruti could introduce it by the first half of 2027. The addition of new features and a new powertrain could also lead to changes in the prices.
