Hyundai has already announced a new sub-4-metre electric SUV that will be made in India and debut later this year. This upcoming EV, codenamed HE1i, was recently spotted in Vijaywada at a charging station, revealing new details.
Hyundai compact EV: What do we know so far?
As per the reporting source, the new sub-4-metre EV was being charged at a fast-charging station. The completely camouflaged test unit had a new set of split-type lights embedded into the lower bumper, which is opposite to the previously spotted test car that had a rectangular projector light. This further hints that the latest test mule could be a top-spec variant.
Additionally, the source claims that Hyundai engineers were looking for a 120 kW DC charger at the charging station. This is interesting, as this EV will be positioned below the Creta Electric, which itself supports up to 100 kW DC charging. Although this does not confirm that this EV will get 120 kW charging support, the possibility of it is very high.
Hyundai is using the E-GMP (K) platform for this upcoming compact EV. Hence, it is likely to get two battery options ranging from 42 kWh to 49 kWh. It is likely to get an estimated real-world range of 350 km or more.
While Hyundai is a master at camouflaging its test cars, we can clearly see that this EV will get a more squared-off profile with a tallboy design. This indicates that interior space will not be compromised. Further, the new squared-off design will help Hyundai to conceal ‘Art of Steel’ exterior design elements easily. We can already see the sharp Geometric dual-tone alloys, which look inspired by the new design philosophy.
The previously spotted test unit was seen with a large central infotainment screen. We believe that this EV could bring the Pelos Connect screen with Gleo AI, and smart features like the electric Boss Mode, auto-parking, Level 2+ ADAS, and more.
With that said, Hyundai will most likely launch this new EV by 2027 Bharat Mobility Expo. Since it will be positioned below the Creta Electric, it could be priced around Rs 10-18 lakh.
