Mercedes-Benz is gearing up to launch the new GLC EV in India by the end of 2026, with bookings scheduled to open from the first week of October. The electric SUV will be locally assembled in India, making it one of the brand’s key upcoming additions to its EV portfolio.
Battery and range
The India-spec GLC EV will be offered in 400 4Matic specification. It uses a 94 kWh NMC battery pack and has a claimed range of up to 715 km on the WLTP cycle. Mercedes has not yet revealed the India-specific power output, charging performance or equipment list.
What’s new
The new GLC EV is based on Mercedes-Benz’s dedicated electric architecture and features a completely new design compared with the current combustion-engined GLC. The SUV measures 4,858mm in length, 1,913 mm in width and 1,649 mm in height, with a 2,972 mm wheelbase.
One of the interesting aspects of the India launch is the speed at which Mercedes is bringing the model here. The company says the GLC EV will reach India as an assembled model within just six months of its European sales commencement, making it the fastest global Mercedes-Benz model to be introduced in India in this manner.
Market positioning
The GLC EV will sit alongside Mercedes-Benz’s growing electric SUV range in India. Its combination of a premium SUV body style, all-wheel drive and a claimed range exceeding 700 km should make it a particularly interesting alternative to other luxury electric SUVs.
Mercedes-Benz has yet to announce the price of the GLC EV. Considering its positioning and local assembly, pricing will be crucial, especially as the company looks to expand its EV portfolio beyond the existing EQA, EQB, EQE SUV and EQS SUV.
