Kia India has opened pre-bookings for three new powertrain options in its MPV line-up, the Carens CNG, Carens Clavis CNG and Carnival Limousine Hybrid. Customers can pre-book all three models through Kia’s authorised dealerships, with prices set to be announced later.
Kia Carens and Carens Clavis CNG
Both CNG models use Kia’s 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox and get a factory-fitted CNG kit with a 60-litre tank. Kia has also made some CNG-specific changes, including revised engine calibration and modified suspension. Both models get 16-inch wheels and disc brakes, along with a dedicated fuel-change switch and a 4.2-inch colour TFT MID with CNG distance-to-empty information.
Interestingly, Kia has also modified the third-row seat-back frame to improve its recline angle, potentially addressing some of the packaging compromises typically associated with fitting a CNG tank in a three-row vehicle.
The Carens CNG will be offered in the Premium (O) G1.5 6MT trim, while the Carens Clavis CNG gets HTE and HTE (O) G1.5 6MT variants. Commercial buyers will additionally get an M-Drive version of the Carens CNG and an HTM version of the Clavis CNG.
Kia Carnival Hybrid
At the other end of the spectrum sits the Carnival Limousine Hybrid. It will be available in the top-spec Limousine+ trim with a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol hybrid powertrain and 6-speed automatic transmission. Kia has not revealed its power and torque figures in the announcement.
Equipment includes 18-inch dual-tone aero alloy wheels, active air flaps, a Virtual Engine Sound System, air purifier with AQI display and retractable rear seat-back tables with wireless charging.
Final thoughts
These additions significantly widen Kia’s powertrain spread in India. The Carens and Clavis CNG target buyers looking to reduce everyday running costs, while the Carnival Hybrid brings electrification to a very different end of the MPV market. Pricing will now be the crucial piece of the puzzle, particularly for the CNG variants where value remains a major buying factor.
