Mitsubishi Pajero to return soon, 13 new cars incoming
The latest reveal by Mitsubishi is its future expansion plan. The brand has officially released the first teaser of the next-gen Pajero, which was discontinued globally in 2021. With that said, Mitsubishi is not planning to stop at the new Pajero, but it will introduce a series of 13 new cars, which will include BEVs, hatchbacks, pickup trucks, and more.
After an unnamed SUV test mule was being spotted repeatedly in various countries, the majority of media houses and experts claimed that it was the new-gen Pajero. Looks like these assumptions were true, and the new-gen Pajero will grow in size.
The brand’s official announcement showcased various slides, which focused on the Pajero. Mitsubishi will roll out Pajero as a series of models, which means we can expect a smaller Pajero and a pickup Pajero in the future. Moreover, the new-gen Pajero will focus on being eco-friendly, while retaining the off-road and durable DNA of the old Pajero nameplate.
While more details about the new-gen Pajero are likely to be revealed towards the end of this year, the teaser shows a massive fascia with connected LED lights that merge in vertical headlamps. This design matches the test mule, which we mentioned above. Experts say that the new-gen Pajero will be based on the Triton’s platform, and it will be bigger, wider, and taller.
Since it will be a global model, expect it to arrive with various powertrains. We think that diesel is out of the picture, but Mitsubishi will surely offer turbo, hybrid, and even a fully electric powertrain. The latter is our assumption, but we believe it will eventually happen since every carmaker is now developing versatile platform that house ICE, Hybrid, and EV powertrains.
Mitsubishi also plans other cars for certain markets. These will include Kei models, hatchbacks, and a lot of SUVs ranging from compact to mid-segment. We do not know whether these will make an entry in the Indian market or not, but the new-gen Pajero is certainly expected to arrive in India. But the question is when!
