Skoda is about to unveil its biggest car ever. The Peaq electric SUV makes its global debut on June 23. And India may not have to wait too long after that.
What Is the Peaq
The Peaq is Skoda’s flagship electric SUV, sitting above the Enyaq and Elroq. It is built on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform and produced in Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic.
It measures nearly 4.9 metres in length with a 2,965mm wheelbase. Six and seven seat layouts are available. In five-seat configuration, boot space is 935 litres. There is also a 37-litre frunk. The panoramic roof is the largest ever fitted to a Skoda, with electrochromic technology and nine independently adjustable segments.
Claimed range is up to 600 km. DC fast charging supports up to 200 kW. The interior features sustainable and recycled materials alongside leather upholstery in higher trims. An optional Relax Package adds massaging seats, adjustable footrests, and wellness modes.
The Bigger Picture
The Peaq is not expected to sell in volumes since ti will be a CBU. We can expect a limited number to come to India. More units would follow if the demand is higher.
The Peaq, if it comes to India, would serve a different purpose. It would be a brand-shaper. A statement of intent. Something to sit alongside the Kodiaq and Slavia and tell buyers that Skoda is serious about the premium end.
At its expected price point, it will compete with the Kia EV9, and Volvo EX90. A strong lineup to go up against, but the Peaq has the size, the range, and the badge to hold its own.
