Aprilia has unveiled the updated SXR 125 at EICMA 2026, expanding its GT scooter range with a more comprehensive equipment package. The 2027 model gets larger wheels, a new TFT instrument console and revised handlebar controls, while retaining the familiar maxi-scooter styling that sets the SXR apart from conventional 125cc scooters.
The updated SXR 125 is currently intended for the European market. It joins the existing 50cc version in Aprilia’s international SXR family and is positioned as an entry-level GT scooter with a focus on everyday comfort and practicality.
Larger wheels and familiar styling
The biggest mechanical change is the move to 14-inch alloy wheels, replacing the 12-inch wheels of the earlier SXR 125. These are shod with 120/70-section tyres at both ends. The larger wheels should offer improved stability over uneven urban roads.
The scooter retains its wide front apron, prominent windscreen and raised handlebars. Its LED headlamp arrangement features three distinct lighting elements, with the central unit separating the main headlamps. The design draws inspiration from Aprilia’s sport motorcycles.
A steel frame forms the foundation, while the flat footboard and upright riding position are intended to make everyday commuting more comfortable.
Powertrain
Power comes from a 125 cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder, four-stroke engine producing 7.8 kW (10.6 hp) at 7,400 rpm. Aprilia has not disclosed the torque figure.
Braking is handled by a 220 mm front disc with a twin-piston calliper and a 140 mm rear drum. The scooter uses a Combined Braking System (CBS), rather than ABS.
New TFT display and smartphone connectivity
The other major upgrade is a 5-inch colour TFT instrument cluster, replacing the older LCD display. It offers a more comprehensive digital interface and supports smartphone connectivity through the optional Aprilia MIA control unit.
Once connected, riders can manage phone calls, music and pictogram-based navigation through the instrument console. Aprilia has also introduced new handlebar switchgear to make navigating the display menus easier.
Practicality includes a 20-litre underseat storage compartment, a rear luggage rack and a bag hook on the inner leg shield. Buyers can also opt for a 32-litre top box and a larger windscreen.
The SXR 125 will be available in Essence White, Instinctive Grey and Enigma Black. A sportier SXR 125 Sport variant will also be offered in Power Red.
