Ather Energy has rolled out the latest safety feature for the Rizta and 450 electric scooter owners that detects upcoming potholes on the road and alerts the rider in advance. This new feature is called Pothole+, and it is being rolled out to all Rizta Z and 450 Apex/X scooter owners via OTA or over-the-air software updates.
What is the Ather Pothole+ feature and how does it work?
Ather’s new Pothole+ feature might look like the latest innovation in two-wheeler safety in India, but the brand claims that this technology has been under development for 9 years. Ather showcased the Pothole+ during its annual Ather Community Day in 2025, and now it is finally here for the Rizta Z and 450 Apex/X owners.
The Pothole+ works on a connected network of Ather scooters and the data collected from those scooters. It basically analyses the ride data collected by other scooters that are connected to the app. This ride data includes potholes, broken patches, uneven surfaces, and even wrongly placed speed bumps.
Further, the collected data is then analysed by the software and displayed to the riders on their TFT console when they are connected to the scooter. The hazard warnings or pothole alerts are displayed on the TFT screens and also communicated to the rider audibly via the Halo helmets or the connected Bluetooth devices.
The company has also revealed that it plans to embed the same data and features into its navigation system for further enhancement in the rider’s safety. Additionally, the first batch roll-out is currently underway, while the brand has announced that the Gen 2 models and above will get this feature in the coming weeks.
